Queer Happenings In January To Bring Us Back Together and Keep The Joy Going

Hey y’all,
I hope you’re finding your footing after the holidays. For many in our community, “going home” can mean comfort and connection... and for others, it can be complicated, heavy, or not an option at all. Wherever you’ve landed this season, I hope you’re taking care of yourselves and each other.
Here are some queer happenings in January to bring us back together and keep the joy going:
Beginning January 2 and every Friday following, hit up Lush for season 18 viewing party of RPDR
Beginning January 4, Como Conservatory is doing "Music Under the Glass" for free on Sundays and Wednesdays. Check out the performers and different types of sounds here: https://comozooconservatory.org/como/winter-music-series/
January 13 from 5-7 p.m. at Queermunity in Minneapolis, OutFront Minnesota will join a national coalition rallying as the U.S. Supreme Court hears two landmark cases that will determine whether transgender youth can participate in school sports and shape the future of trans rights nationwide.

January 25 from 6:30–9:00 p.m., the MN Queer Arts Awards will celebrate and honor the creativity and vibrant talents of the LGBTQ+ community in an inspiring evening of art and recognition.

MN Lynx Playoffs
Okay, not spooky, but absolutely fierce. If you’re sleeping on the Lynx right now, wake up and grab a ticket. Bonus points if you show up in a pink wig or channel your inner StudBudz with some bold hair dye. Sports can be gay, and this is proof.
A Beautiful Noise at the Orpheum

Science Museum of Minnesota - New Exhibit Launch
The museum is unveiling Skin: Living Armor, Evolving Identity this month, and it’s queer in all the best ways: science, identity, transformation. SCIENCE IS GAY, and we love to see it.

GAYLAXICON – October 3–5
Blast off into a galaxy where everyone’s a little bit queer. This annual LGBTQ+ sci-fi and fantasy convention lands in town with panels, cosplay, and plenty of queer nerd joy.

🏳️🌈 Stonewall Sports: Pickleball Season Incoming!
Calling all sporty gays and allies! Stonewall Twin Cities Pickleball registration is open from Sept 2–5, and the season kicks off Oct 6 through Nov 24. Whether you're a paddle pro or just here for the post-game hangs, this is your moment to serve queer excellence.
🏀 Minnesota Lynx: Queer Courtside Energy
The Lynx are on fire this season, and if you haven’t caught a game yet—what are you waiting for? They face off against the Indiana Fever [Caitlin Clark's team, for the newbies] on Sept 9, and it’s the perfect excuse to rally your crew. Pre-game at A Bar of Their Own for sips, bites, and big queer energy. And don’t forget to follow the Stud Budz for the laughs.
🌿 September 6: Doobie Dabbler Festival
Minnesota’s cannabis fest is back! The Doobie Dabbler hits Sever’s Festival Grounds in Shakopee on Sept 6, serving up THC tastings, live music, BMX stunts, pig races (yes, really), and over 30 food trucks. It’s a 21+ celebration of all things green and groovy—because queers practically invented “Cali Sober.”
