St. Patrick's Day Weekend at the EAGLE MPLS is going to be poppin' with the all inclusive dance party Disco After Dark! We asked creator J. DeForge to tell us more!
Why did you create Disco After Dark?
Disco After Dark is something I’ve thought about bringing to life for a few years, I love disco and house music, the nightlife and club scene, and I wanted a way to blend the music and fashion and fun of all those things together for a monthly party.
What would you say is the most rewarding part of being a DJ?
I am not a DJ, just a creative that wanted an outlet to collaborate with artists and work with people to make a safe space for an already thriving community.
What does All Inclusive mean to you?
We label our event as All Inclusive because we want to ensure that our event is for everyone in and out of the queer community. We also highly encourage Leather & Gear at our event since we host the event at Eagle MPLS. If dressing up is not your thing, that’s cool too.
What is disco inspired house music?
Disco House is a sub genre of House music that is inspired by and samples classic disco music.
Why the Eagle MPLS?
I moved to Minneapolis last May and wanted to find a job where I could work within the queer community. I got a job at the Eagle and worked out the details of the event over the summer.
Who or what is Pivot Mpls?
Pivot MPLS is a DJ collective based in the Twin Cities that host and play at a bunch of other great events like Ratio, Cyberdisco, Jumpsuit, Daddy Issues, and Gothess. I found them on a flyer and reached out to work together on bringing Disco After Dark to life and it’s been really fantastic working with them.
Who are your DJs?
We feature a rotating cast of DJs from Pivot MPLS as well as guest DJs. Some of our main DJs so far have been Beab, Xminus1, RealGirl, OritheGhost, Kitten Candy, and Erlaab.
Do your events always have a theme?
Our events don’t always have a theme but we host Disco After Dark on the third Saturday of every month, so if there’s a holiday or event that falls close to that weekend, we try to incorporate whatever is going on. There is no dress code, I like to include the phrase “come as you are or dressed to the nines” on the flyers to encourage people to dress up but it’s not mandatory, whatever’s comfortable to you. We don’t have a cover charge and there is a coat check available.
